French medical comedy Interns and true crime thriller Operation Black Tide: The Suicidal Mission will screen at SBS on Demand on Thursday, 8 September.

Due to drastic preventative health measures undertaken in a public hospital, the doctors in charge of the intern department find themselves quarantined at home for 24 hours. Three inexperienced interns and a medical examiner who do not know each other must tackle the situation head-on and handle the department on their own, unaware that thistemporary quarantine is about to be extended indefinitely. Interns stars Louise Bourgoin, Alice Belaïdi, Karim Leklou, and Zacharie Chasseriaud.

Inspired by real-life events, Operation Black Tide: The Suicidal Mission is a gripping tale of the most widely covered drug trafficking operation to take place in Europe this century. Nando is an expert sailor who trains hard as an amateur boxer in his spare time. Coming from a poor background and with no hope of advancement in life, he begins to wonder about his future. When he meets his estranged cousin Gema, he is taken aback by her luxurious lifestyle and is shocked to find out that this is funded by drugs trafficking. With nowhere else to turn and in desperate need to make money, Nando reluctantly agrees to a drug smuggling operation and travels to Brazil. There, he and two companions must transport 3,000 kilos of cocaine across the Atlantic against all odds in a homemade submarine, battling storms, engine breakdowns and cabin fever. At the same time, the Portuguese police authorities have become aware of their mission and are getting ever closer to catching them. Nando and his two companions must do everything they can to work together and survive, in this epic, underwater adventure.

An accompanying true crime documentary series Operation Black Tide: Suicide Voyage will be screen on the same day.

  1. More kudos to the SBS for these two new offerings, I’m not sure when I shall be able to watch them though. I am currently watching another SBS offering Faking Hitler which is quite absorbing, and gives an insight into Stern magazine which during the seventies began looking into Germany’s National-Socialist past having its journalists track down German celebrities and influential people with a Waffen SS past, this in turn began Stern’s attraction to the Hitler Diaries in 1983. As a history buff I’m quite enjoying Faking Hitler, this controversial story is not that well known anymore.
