Grand Designs Australia hoping for second lease of life

Could this well-regarded property series be headed for ABC?

Grand Designs Australia will have its final season on Foxtel in early 2023, but producers are hoping the show may have a second lease of life elsewhere.

A casting call has gone out for Grand Designs Australia, Grand Designs Transformations and Restoration Australia.

All three shows take years to film from concept to completion, but could surface on another broadcaster down the track -potentially including a new host.

In the past ABC executives have privately expressed a desire to have all the Grand Designs formats under one roof -ABC has screened Grand Designs (UK), Grand Designs: NZ and Restoration Australia.

A Fremantle spokesperson told TV Tonight, “Fremantle Australia are hopeful Grand Designs Australia may continue at another home in the future. Given the long lead times between casting and production, we are looking at different development options.”

A casting notice has announced, “New builds, alterations and additions, heritage projects. From the weird to the wonderful, big budget or small, we want to join you on the journey as you build the home of your dreams. Are you building something amazing? We’d love to hear from you!”

Grand Designs Australia: New builds
“Grand Designs Australia is looking for the country’s most exciting architectural homes. From heritage buildings to mud brick houses, state of the art modernist masterpieces to homes made from plastic and old tyres, we want to come along for the ride as your unique project comes to life. So if you’re planning, designing or building a Grand Design, we’d love to hear from you!”

Grand Designs Transformations: Alterations and additions
“The producers of Grand Designs Australia are on the hunt for exciting projects for our brand new series Grand Designs Transformations. From the weird to the wonderful, big budget or small, we want to join you on the journey as you reinvigorate your home and create beautiful new spaces. Bathrooms, garden make overs or unique interior revamps, if you’ve got an amazing renovation we want to hear from you.”

Restoration Australia: Heritage projects
“We are searching for passionate homeowners who are ready to embark upon a heritage restoration, or the historic preservation of their home.
