I first started watching this show years ago to learn more about how the American system of democracy works, as it is technically very different to Australia’s version. To that end it has been very informative.
I was thinking the other night when watching an episode, just how clearly they communicate issues and their use of graphs to support their analysis is superb. I think Chas superpower is his ability to churn through vast data and break down this complexity into those powerful graphs. I also think John Barron is vastly under-rated journalist, whether here or on the Drum he is a great, fair and impartial interviewer – a worthy successor to Geraldine Doogue, who for me represents the gold standard of journalism and interviewing.
The program I think is a good example of the disproportionate focus on USA politics in Australian media. It’s not like there’s any Planet Indonesia when Indonesia has a similarly sized population to USA and is a near neighbour to Australia.
