Brutal cull: 100 AGT acts about to become 16
It's a punishing elimination by AGT judges who whittle down so many acts for just two Semi Final places.

“It’s a Yes from me!”
But a Yes from a judge on AGT does not necessarily translate to a return performance as viewers will be reminded when the first Semi Final screens on Seven on Sunday.
Of 100 acts given a yes across 8 Heats, only 16 will appear in the Semi Finals. That includes 5 Golden Buzzer acts chosen by judges and host Ricki-Lee, meaning just 11 places are otherwise up for grabs.
At the top of Sunday’s semi final, judges debate which acts to include, explaining the process to viewers.
It’s not the first time the show has adopted the mass-culling. Viewers were shocked many years ago with Australia’s Got Talent to learn that a successful audition did not guarantee a place in the Semi Finals.
AGT has had a bumper crop of talent this year. It will be a very entertaining two Semis if viewers can get beyond some glaring ommissions in the 16 returning acts, not all of which will be Australian based.

Its literally The Voice revamp all over again. Why do networks like Channel 7 and ITV (they show The Voice UK) think we want brutal cullings and quick endings after the auditions? Look i know they’ve done something similar before but wow. Feel for all the acts.
Maybe one day Aussie TV will find the happy medium between a series lasting 5 months and 5 minutes.
Even expanding each semi final to 10 or 12 acts wouldn’t be cutting themselves so short.
Brutal culling and surely not an easy decision for the judges. Personally, I find the golden buzzer concept strange. I know it makes for good TV in the moment but wouldn’t the show like you to spend more time with this amazing act?
This years BGT had 40 in the semi finals but that was live and they had 5 semi finals. But cutting it down to 11 is very harsh, surely they could of had 4 semi finals, so it’s 27 + the 5 golden buzzers for 32.
Then selecting 2 from each semi final for a grand final with 8 contestants
Even in 2019, they had 30 contestants in the semi finals with 5 semi finals in total
