Seb Costello fined, placed on good behaviour after ‘error of judgment’

Neighbourhood spat involving ACA reporter and a car blocking a laneway goes to court.

A Current Affair reporter Seb Costello was placed on a diversion program and fined $750 yesterday following a verbal argument with neighbours over a parked car, last February.

The Neighbourhood Justice Centre heard Costello asked his neighbours to move a parked car that was blocking a laneway which led to his garage. He admitted to clenching his fist in anger as the spat continued but there were no injuries.

The altercation with a 23-year-old man and 22-year-old woman led to two counts of unlawful assault. Costello had denied making threats or physically assaulting the pair.

The Herald Sun reports Magistrate Noreen Toohey accepted Costello was a person of good character at a low risk of reoffending.

“This was clearly an error of judgment,” she said.

Costello received a six-month good behaviour bond and was ordered to pay $750 to a court fund.

Exiting the Neighbourhood Justice Centre in Collingwood yesterday, Costello declined to answer questions from a Seven News crew, the Daily Mail reported.
