Brendan O’Carroll confirms new Mrs Brown’s Boys episodes

A four-part mini-series and two Christmas specials planned for 2023.

Mrs Brown’s Boys will be returning for six new episodes, creator Brendan O’Carroll has confirmed.

He said the BBC originally wanted a four-part mini-series this year as part of the celebrations for the Corporation’s centenary but he had trouble booking studio space, which was suddenly in demand when Covid restrictions were lifted..

He told The Sun: ‘The BBC were adamant that they wanted to get four episodes, so we thought, ‘Let’s book studios now for 2023 and we can do the four then.’

‘We’re hoping to do the four-part mini-series of Mrs Brown and then two more Christmas specials at the end of the year as well. I absolutely love it – I get goosebumps that Mrs Brown has become part of Christmas.

New eps will be in addition to a 2022 Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas special, Shining Mammy, and a New Year’s Day episode called Mammy’s Hair Loom.

Mrs Brown’s Boys screens in Australia on Seven.

  1. I loved this show for years but now they are recycling the same jokes and it just seems so tired. I think that they should just make a few specials every year for Easter and Christmas and maybe another holiday and it would do well and I would watch it. It just seems like they’re flogging a dead horse if they’re going to continue doing the regular episodes.

  2. Should make it a six part series and drop the Christmas specials which have gone from one of the highest rating shows on the day to one of the lowest. Hopefully the time a series gives them means they can recapture the spirit of earlier series rather than just churn out the same Christmas tropes year after year.
