Returning: Back Roads

In a special 100th episode, Heather Ewart looks at The Great Australian Pub.

Season 9 of Back Roads begins on ABC on Monday week.

It kicks off with special 100th episode as Heather Ewart looks at The Great Australian Pub.

Our very own unique style of watering hole, the humble pub sits at the heart of many communities. A place to congregate, of sporting triumphs and losses, of meat raffles and music. A reflection of society, the pub has always been there to bring us together. But it wasn’t always this way.

In this episode, Heather Ewart shows off some of her favourites.

Monday, 2 January, 8pm on ABC.

  1. I did say it in a joking manner before, though now I think there should actually be a spin-off series called Front Roads, where they visit the city communities that have busy road frontages. It could be the Parramatta Road, Princess Highway, Nepean Highway or the Gympie Road etc. A lot of stories and history to be told of catering for the city and people coming in from the country. And the industries that made the suburbs.

    1. That’s supposed to be Princes Highway. I always get that wrong. There’s also a fashion brand called Princess Highway, which doesn’t help either. I bet that mistake is how that came about.

  2. I can always count on ABC for interesting and entertaining television during the holiday season. The other FTA’s should take note that some people are happy to rest at home after a busy lead up to Christmas.
