There’s only one Molly.
Say what you like about cheeky on-stage behaviour, Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum is a larrikin and institution who today celebrates his 80th birthday.
For many years Molly’s real age looked set to be buried deep in King Tut’s tomb, but a tell-tale birth notice in the defunct Argus newspaper confirmed a birth in Orbost, Victoria of 29 January 1943.
Famous -and infamous- for his appearances on Countdown and Hey Hey it’s Saturday, amongst others, Molly was honoured on Friday at The Australian Music Vault, Victorian Arts Centre.
Keep your pants on and have a fabulous day, Molly!

I hope he got a few belt buckles as gifts
Good on him. I grew up with Countdown.
Even though he is growing old disgracefully as some have said and he showed his aging butt that wasn’t necessary, he did apologise after all, his achievements in promoting the music industry in this country have been immeasurable. No other person in this country has done so much in that regard. To turn 80 is an immense milestone to experience life as well. Take it slow and easy but still keep Rockin Molly.
