Sunrise building for lease

Sunrise and Seven News shift to Eveleigh studios by end of year is now a step closer.

A For Lease sign has now gone up on Seven’s Martin Place buiding, ahead of the news broadcasting team relocating to Eveleigh Studios (pictured below).

The shift has been mooted for several years, originally for 2022, but now expected before the end of this year as part of upgrading and cost savings.

CEO James Warburton previously said, “From December 2022, all of Seven Sydney will be located in a refurbished version of the existing Eveleigh office, refitted and significantly expanded. Seven Eveleigh will span seven floors and include new, purpose-built, state-of-the-art studios and facilities for our news and public affairs shows and people.

“Martin Place has been an incredible location for Seven’s Sydney news and public affairs operation over the past 17 years. However, our responsibility to deliver cutting-edge, market-leading news and public affairs content has outgrown our current location.”

The “Brekky Central” building was originally a bank (wardrobe took over the old vault) and has been fitted out and upgraded for some two decades for Seven News, Sunrise, The Morning Show, even Today Tonight, requiring a nimble roster of moveable sets and equipment for broadcasts.

  1. It was so much fun to go there and see tv being made. So much joy for people not used to it. To be able to stand outside on the street and see celebs for free and mix and mingle with the presenters was very joyous for people from all over Australia and the world. Hopefully they get out on the street in Redfern and can have audiences inside the studio.

  2. So the for lease sign (at least last week) referred to the space being available from the end of Jan 2023 (as in 2 days ago). The newsroom above the studio does appear vacant. Clearly the studio is still being used….a great space to present shows like Sunrise and The Morning Show (the evening news in Sydney does not really benefit from this studio) but can only imagine the cost saves with moving from the CBD.

    1. The siege at Lindt Cafe was opposite. Normally a great vantage point to be in the middle of a news story but it was traumatic for Seven staff who were locked down and had to stay on air. Some slept on the floor that night, I believe.

    2. It is a key location for many city news happenings giving 7 the drop on the opposition. The promotion with the 7 logo and news ticker will be a loss to the central CBD.
