Under Investigation: Feb 15

Liz Hayes leads a panel discussing the cold case disappearance of 1970s TV chef 'Willi' Koeppen.

Tonight’s Under Investigation looks at the cold case disappearance of TV chef Willi Koeppen in outer Melbourne in 1976.

Programmer Hamish Turner recently said, “‘Willi’ Koeppen had a restaurant in the Dandenongs called The Cuckoo. His claim to fame was used he to cook pancakes for Hitler. He came to Australia and became one of Australia’s first TV chefs, and then one night he disappeared and has never been seen again, so it’s a fantastic tale of intrigue.”

Australia’s first celebrity chef, a star of radio and television, runs one of the country’s most successful restaurants before he vanishes without a trace in 1976. Willi Koeppen’s disappearance is one of Victoria’s darkest mysteries.
