We Interrupt This Broadcast: promo

First look at upcoming sketch comedy show coming to Seven.

Seven has teased its first glimpse of upcoming sketch show We Interrupt This Broadcast which will gently mock the TV landscape.

The cast includes Christie Whelan Browne, Bridie Connell, Michelle Brasier, Adele Vuko, Duncan Fellows, Greg Larsen, Ben Russell and Bjorn Stewart.

The series is headed for a 7:30pm slot at a date yet to be announced.

From the network that brought you Full Frontal and Fast Forward, the biggest new comedy in decades is here.

We Interrupt This Broadcast is a long-overdue comedy series that makes fun of Australia’s favourite (and least favourite) shows.

From MKR to SAS Australia, The Bachelor to MAFS, Stranger Things to Love Island, nothing is off limits as We Interrupt This Broadcast reboots and revitalises a long-standing and near forgotten Australian tradition: taking the piss out of everything, including ourselves!

We Interrupt This Broadcast showcases eight of Australia’s most seasoned live performers and versatile comedy talent: Christie Whelan Browne, Bridie Connell, Michelle Brasier, Adele Vuko, Duncan Fellows, Greg Larsen, Ben Russell and Bjorn Stewart, with celebrated screen actors and established comedy performers supporting the ensemble cast throughout the series.

Need to know more? When asked to summarise the show in three words, Bridie proclaimed We Interrupt This Broadcast to be “unhinged, delightful, silliness”, while Adele declared the series: “Full. Of. Funny people”. Greg accurately surmised that is was a “sketch comedy show”, Ben concluded “Toot, Toot, Toot!”

We Interrupt This Broadcast is a Helium original production for the Seven Network.

  1. “From the network that brought you…”
Channel 7 – it’s not about you. But, if you want to make it about you, make sure you give this show a chance and not axe it after one season.
All comedy – especially sketch – needs to breathe and find an audience.

  2. Is that impersonator comedian Elliott Loney (does famous tennis impressions) and long-time 7mate voice-over and actor Duncan Fellows in your picture above?

  3. Well it will be big in Perth………

I feel that the main part of sketch comedy – particularly if you are lampooning other TV shows (seems the main premise for this show), is that the characters “closely” represent the TV shows’ presenters that they are “taking off” IE: Fast Forward & D Generation, who in the heck is the guy on the left on the clip meant to represent? Not Oshi, surely?

    1. That’s a good observation. They seemed to have gone through a lot of costume change and makeup to appear like the characters they were parodying. But that seems absent so far in the promos for WITB.

  4. “The biggest new comedy in decades” doesn’t cut it for me. In 2015 there was Open Slather with some of our best and biggest actors doing sketches and take offs of numerous TV shows. There was The Real Housewives of The World, The Real Mermaids, MasterChef, 60 Minutes ..Gina “Minhart”, The Slap, Australian Story..The Dinky Twins, Dancing with The Stars, Farmer Wants a Wife and Prisoner wants a B…ch, plus numerous add take off like The Jeep, Ronald McDonald on DWTS. Several original actors from both of the FF shows starred including Shane Jacobson, Stephen Curry, Michael Veitch and others. They even had special guests like Sting, Hamish Blake, Mark Holden and numerous others too. Just remains to be seen if they live up to their 3 word summary or whether it’s a case of Flip, Flop and Fly. I will watch it’s a change from the “love” reality, but if I doesn’t get me laughing in the first episode I’m out ratings/comparisons or not. Comedy is like music it’s personal taste.
