2023 Academy Awards: guide

Jimmy Kimmel hosts the 95th Oscars, Live* AEDT on Seven on Monday.

On Monday Seven screens the 95th Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

It will be Live on Seven in AEDT states, but delayed in others -turn to 7plus to watch Live.

The 10 movies up for Best Picture are Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Banshees of Inisherin, The Fabelmans, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water, Elvis, All Quiet on the Western Front, Women Talking and Triangle of Sadness.

Australian nominees include Cate Blanchett in the Best Actress category for her the psychological drama, Tár; Director Baz Luhrmann and wife Catherine Martin are both producers of the Elvis biopic; Brisbane film student Lachlan Pendragon is nominated for Best Animated Short Film for An Ostrich Told Me The World Is Fake and I Think I Believe It.

  1. Best bits for me was the audience singing Happy Birthday to James Martin. And thanks to Top Gun Maverick for using Foghat song “Slow Ride” in the film, it’s a 70s classic used in several films even though Gaga featured. John Travolta’s emotional speech for those we’ve lost. Lent Kravitz was just a real tear jerker. One of the best Oscars nights.

  2. What’s the reason for 7 to not even show this live (which channel 9 did when they aired it), as initial winners were announced on Variety 30 minutes before 7 started screening it. It must be being aired on a 30 minute delay to show more ads.
