Airdate: Dinosaur With Stephen Fry

Stephen Fry 'travels back in time' to explore the land of Dinosaurs.

4 part UK documentary series Dinosaur With Stephen Fry uses CGI to ‘transport’ our host back to the land of dinosaurs.

Stephen Fry, celebrated actor, author and dinosaur enthusiast, travels back in time to chart the 180-million-year story of these remarkable creatures. Using the latest CGI and virtual studio technology, he immerses himself in their magical world – exploring the forests, plains and river valleys where the dinosaurs once trod, to come face to face with the most iconic of these pre-historic beasts, from the immense Diplodocus and the terrifying T-Rex, to the deadly Allosaurus, the highly intelligent Raptors, and the three-horned, tank-like Triceratops.

Along the way Stephen is joined by dinosaur experts who act as guides to these lost worlds – able to decode their hunting strategies, courtship dances and parenting strategies. Visits to key dinosaur discovery sites, museums and scientific labs also answer some of the greatest mysteries of the dinosaurs from uncovering the world’s oldest dinosaur fossil, to measuring the bite force and speed of a T-Rex.

Episode One:
Stephen Fry is transported 155 million years back in time to the first Golden Age of the dinosaurs, the Jurassic, when they grew into giants. He explores the conifer forests and fern prairies that were their home, to encounter a monstrous plant-eating Diplodocus, and a deadly predator, the Allosaurus. Expert Dr Susie Maidment from London’s Natural History Museum arrives to help decode these dinosaurs’ remarkable behaviour.

Thursday, 16 March at 7.30pm on SBS.

  1. ‘Walking With Dinosaurs’ was a ground breaking series nearly 25 years ago now and I recall seeing a series on SBS a number of years back doing bio mechanical experiments with bones and slabs of meat being munched up by steel devices, so nothing remotely original in this. Even the CGI looks pretty basic, no better than Walking!
