ITV Studios takes a ride to Destination X

Australian producers have secured rights to a big new reality bus trip being adapted by BBC and NBCU.

Australian rights to a new reality show, Destination X, have been secured by ITV Studios Australia.

According to C21, “10 contestants embark on a road trip with no idea of their destination. Once they’re on the innovative Destination X bus, reality is tweaked to mislead them and the viewers. Information comes with a number of clues designed to help the contestants decide if they can trust what they see. At the end of each episode, the contestant who places their X on a map furthest away from the bus’s actual location has to leave the game, losing their shot at winning a cash prize.”

Created by Belgium’s Geronimo (The Big Job Switch, Doctor Davy), the format also sees NBCUniversal and the BBC in the UK collaborating on an adaptation.

The series is described as a big unique format that pairs spectacular adventure travel with the ultimate guessing game.

“It’s amazing to see how Destination X has literally taken off since its launch!” said Gepke Nederlof, MD of Be-Entertainment. “It’s a true adventure both in and outside of the Destination X-bus, and we could not be more proud than to partner with two of the leading content companies in the world in such an early stage of our international journey.”

Under CEO David Mott ITV Studios Australia has produced I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, Love Island Australia, Alone Australia, The Voice Australia, MKR, The Chase, Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell, This is Your Life, My Mum Your Dad and more.

  1. Has any country actually aired this or like Million Dollar Island is being touted as the next big thing based on international format sales only and then flopping and getting those orders cancelled when it goes to air?

  2. Sounds like a mystery flight with a prize and the only clue you get where you are is when you look out the window just before you land and end up getting off completely unprepared….only in a bus…..It will probably be hit with viewers. 🤣
