SBS boards World’s Most Punctual Train

Two part factual takes a ride on Japan’s Shinkansen bullet trains.

There haven’t been too many railway titles on SBS of late (at least not first-run, prime time titles).

But SBS has recently acquired World’s Most Punctual Train a two part series on Japan’s Shinkansen bullet trains.

The Hokuriku Shinkansen takes its guests from the hyper-modern, glittering metropolis of Tokyo to Kanazawa. The doco looks behind the scenes, is in the cockpit with one of the youngest Shinkansen pilots in the country, meets a wasabi farmer, visits woodcarvers and sees how one of the world’s last giant taiko drums is created.

SBS also picked up 45-minute travel special Love & Dolce Vita: History of the Amalfi Coast plus A Cold War of Spies (4×50’) amongst a 14 hr package of content from German distributor Autentic Distribution.

  1. For overseas travellers to Japan, t’s a train that is one of those lifetime experience moments. I hope they share lessons on how they became so punctual and reliable with the railways in Japan.

I also think a local version of Great Australian Railway Journeys could be an interesting idea. A local version could be more in-depth.
