Magnum PI confirms final season

10 more episodes will wrap action series with Jay Hernandez.

Reboot action series Magnum PI, starring Jay Hernandez, will end with its fifth season.

10 of 20 episodes in S5 have already screened with a further 10 to come in 2024.

In the US the show has been drawing 3.35 million viewers, down by 36% in viewership in the live+same day ratings.

The show was previously cancelled by CBS after four seasons citing financial reasons, but was revived by NBC for 20 episodes, initially reported as being split over two seasons, with an option for more.

The series also features Perdita Weeks, Zachary Knighton, Stephen Hill, Amy Hill, and Tim Kang.

According to TV Series Finale the cast’s options expire on June 30th, and NBC has opted not to extend them. The network could have extended them and would have had next year to decide if they wanted a sixth season, putting the cast on hold for a year. With the uncertainty of the ongoing writers strike, the decision has been made to end the show.

Magnum PI screens in Australia on FOX One.

  1. NBC wanted two mid-season replacement seasons and made 20 episodes with two 10 episode arcss to do that. Cheaper than creating two new productions. S6 was always unlikely.
