Ronny Chieng will be honoured as Breakout Comedy Star of the Year at the Just for Laughs Festival this weekend in Montreal.

Malaysian-born, Australian-trained Chieng has found success in the USA as a stand-up comedian, actor and The Daily Show correspondent,

He appeared in the worldwide box office hit “Crazy Rich Asians,” and has gone on to roles in Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” and horror hit “M3GAN.”

He had his own ABC comedy Ronny Chieng: International Student in 2017 and will soon be seen in the 10-episode Hulu series Interior Chinatown.

  1. I’m not trying to diminish his achievement here, but can somebody a decade into their comedy career really be a “breakout star”
