Airdate: The Lovers

When a bad-tempered, hilarious, Belfast supermarket worker meets a handsome, self-centred, political broadcaster...

UK romantic drama series The Lovers, starring Johnny Flynn (Beast, Emma) and Roisin Gallagher (The Fall, The Dry), will screen in September on Binge and FOX Showcase.

The series follows Janet (Gallagher), a bad-tempered, hilarious, Belfast supermarket worker who doesn’t seem to care about anything much, including her life, and Seamus (Flynn) a handsome, self-centred, political broadcaster with what looks to be a perfect London life and a celebrity girlfriend. So when Seamus unexpectedly drops into Janet’s world (literally over the wall and into her backyard) they instantly clash – and yet also find themselves inextricably drawn to each other…

Set in Belfast, this is a sexy, funny, fight-y love story about two people who appear to be utterly wrong for each other – yet may just be utterly right. The series also stars Conleth Hill (Game of Thrones, Holding) and Alice Eve (Belgravia, Star Trek Into Darkness).

Produced by Drama Republic for Sky Studios. The series was commissioned by Sky Studios for Sky Atlantic. Roanna Benn and Rebecca de Souza are executive producers for Drama Republic, with commissioning editors Liz Lewin and Manpreet Dosanjh as executive producers for Sky Studios. Hannah Pescod also serves as executive producer, with Chris Martin as producer. The Lovers is written by David Ireland and directed by Justin Martin.

All six-episodes Thursday September 7 on Binge / weekly from 8:30pm on FOX Showcase.

  1. Glad you posted a clip David…I saw this on the Foxtel app and thought Foxtel were going to”dupe” us subscribers by rolling out the old show of the same name with Paula Wilcox and Richard Bekensale back in 1970…because I have to say nothing at all surprises me with Foxtel and their “deckchairs” syndrome 😂
