Axed: A League of Their Own, The Periperal.

Hollywood strikes are being cited as the reason behind studios reversing decisions for new seasons.

Prime Video has backflipped on plans for two shows which had already been renewed: A League of Their Own and The Peripheral.

Scripts for all four episodes were completed before the dual writer / actor strikes, but the studio claims the strikes would have delayed the arrival of the series to 2025.

The decision to cancel the series from co-creators/showrunners Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson (who also starred) comes as Hollywood’s first dual strikes since the 1960s has brought production to a standstill.

Co-creator Abbi Jacobson, who also starred, said on social media, “To blame this cancellation on the strike is bullshit and cowardly,” she noted, before thanking fans “….But this post isn’t about all that. About all the ways this show has been put through the ringer. Not today.”

Sony Pictures Television plans to shop the series around with the hopes it can find a new home for season two. At just 4 episodes that mat be optimistic.

Meanwhile strikes were also blamed for a reversal of sci-fi series The Peripheral enjoying its second season.

Prime Video had picked up a second season in February, about two months after the first season finished its run.

Season two had begun preproduction in early May when writers went on strike, followed by actors in mid-July.

Based on a William Gibson novel, The Peripheral is set in a near-future world and stars Chloë Grace Moretz as a woman who discovers a secret connection to an alternate reality.
