Axed: Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty

Peeriod drama dramatising the ives of the 80s Los Angeles Lakers ends at two seasons.

1980s basketball drama Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty has been axed by HBO after two seasons.

The news comes fast after the S2 finale.

Co-creator Max Borenstein took to social media to say “Not the ending that we had in mind. But nothing but gratitude and love.”

Director Salli Richardson also posted, “When you give it everything you’ve got, you can have no regrets. I hope you enjoy the last episode of @winningtimehbo I am sure I will do many more hours of TV and hopefully many features in my future, but I can say that at this moment in time I am most proud of the work we did on this masterful show.”

The series produced by Adam McKay (Succession) centres around the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers. It is based on the book “Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s” written by Jeff Pearlman.

The ensemble cast included John C. Reilly, Quincy Isaiah, Adrien Brody, Jason Clarke, Gaby Hoffmann, Jason Segel, Hadley Robinson, DeVaughn Nixon, Solomon Hughes, Tamera Tomakili, Brett Cullen, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Spencer Garrett, Molly Gordon, Joey Brooks, Delante Desouza, Jimel Atkins, Austin Aaron, McCabe Slye, Thomas Mann, Gillian Jacobs, with Michael Chiklis and Rob Morgan.

In Australia it screened on Binge / FOX Showcase which even staged a red carpet event in Sydney with Jason Clarke and Quincy Isaiah.
