Foreign Correspondent: Sept 7

One year on from a Texas school shooting a community is still trying to recover.

This week on Foreign Correspondent is a PBS Frontline report, “After Uvalde: Guns, Grief and Texas Politics.”

A year after the Uvalde school shooting where 19 primary school students and two teachers were killed by an 18-year-old man, a traumatised community is still trying to recover. In this report from PBS Frontline reporter Maria Hinojosa spends time with the families whose children never came home from school that day and meets one young student who lost her best friend and who has now become one of the most visible faces of the movement for changing the gun laws in the state of Texas.

The report also investigates the police response on the day of the shooting. With access to many hours of policy body camera and security footage as well as interviews with attending officers, questions are answered about why it took more than 75 minutes for hundreds of police to finally contain the gunman.

8pm Thursday on ABC.

  1. It’s nice that the ABC and SBS broadcast current affair shows from OS. But in this case, why bother? This episode of Frontline was broadcast back in May … so not too long to wait (good) and ran for 55 mins. However, FC only goes for 30 mins. So 45% of the show has been cut to fit the timeslot. That’s a lot of show. So again, why bother?

The last 2 episodes of 4C have also had 15 mins cut them to fit the timeslot. SBS frequently cut 5 to 10 mins; sometimes more, from their CA and Doco’s as well; although those shows that are broadcast on SBS Viceland often get broadcast in full.

7 to 8 mins gets cut from every “The Last Leg” episode by the distributor BBC Studios; although 1 episode of the most recent season had 11 mins cut from it.

Don’t we Aussies deserve to see the whole show?
