iview adds all episodes of The Newsreader S2

Surprise news for fans who love to binge their local dramas.

ABC yesterday made a surprise drop of all episodes of The Newsreader S2 onto iview.

Creator Michael Lucas said, “In a move that I like to think echoes Beyonce… The ABC has today surprise-dropped the entire season two of The Newsreader on iView. All six eps are there now, locked and loaded and ready to discover. For those who love kicking it old school, the series will of course keep airing Sunday nights at 8.30. But if you’re more of a binge viewer (and evidence suggests A LOT of people are), you now have full access to the perfect alternative to footy finals.

“For those keeping up with the podcast, rest assured those eps will roll out quickly too, so you’ll be able to bounce between the two.”

Here is the synopsis for Ep 3, now available along with eps 4, 5 & 6: With international stock markets in freefall, Helen is plunged into crisis when a gossip columnist threatens to expose her troubled past. Feeling hunted, she turns to embattled CEO Charlie Tate for help.

    1. Both ABC and SBS (and even the odd commercial network) have dabbled with this in the past. There are positives and negatives of offering all eps and it seems to vary from show to show. So far, nobody seems to have landed on a blanket rule, which I guess is their prerogative.

      1. There’s the problem. It’s currently a dog’s breakfast with zero consistency. I personally see no downside to an entire series being released for streaming at once. A win-win situation for everyone.

        1. There are arguments around whether this impacts ratings, and then press stories as a result. Also a whole series dropped at once can deny it the buzz that sustains a series across say 10 weeks. If we think of Game of Thrones for example, they kept the excitement going across a longer period of time. Hijack more recently. I’m not saying these mean we should never drop at once, I love a good binge. But there are considerations to take on board, it’s sorta swings and roundabouts.

  1. I was really tired last night when looking on iview and thought I had misread that all episodes were available….didn’t go back to check, what a great surprise…love this show !
