Renewed: One Piece

"The adventures of Iñaki and the live-action Straw Hats will continue onward!" says creator Eiichiro Oda.

Newly-launched adventure series One Piece, based on a Japanese manga, will continue to sail the high seas for Netflix.

Eiichiro Oda, Creator, Illustrator and Executive Producer confirmed the news today saying, “To the Straw Hat Grand Fleet: What did you think of Season 1 of the live-action One Piece? I spent a long time working on it with Netflix and Tomorrow Studios. It seems people around the world have been enjoying the show, which makes the hard work from the production team truly worth it.

“To everyone who’s been a fan of One Piece for years, and to those who experienced One Piece for the first time, thank you so much.

“Two weeks after the launch, I just received some great news. Netflix has decided to renew the show! The adventures of Iñaki and the live-action Straw Hats will continue onward!

“It’ll still take a while to get the scripts ready, so please be patient.

“From here on, it seems to me the Straw Hats will need a great doctor… We will see!”

One Piece is currently the #1 title globally on Netflix with 37.8 million views amassed in less than two weeks since its release. The series reached the Top 10 in 93 countries, and debuted at #1 in 46.

  1. My partner is a bit fan of the original and insists I shouldn’t watch this. I an curious, but I can’t really watch it behind her back. I’m curious also to how obvious all the repurposed Black Sails sets will look.

  2. This is without a doubt the biggest TV surprise of 2023 for me in terms of new shows. What a ride. I’m not familiar with any of the source material so I went in to this with no knowledge or understanding of anything and boy oh boy was it a great time. From top to bottom this production is first class. Couldn’t recommend it enough and I am beyond excited they are continuing on with it. I read that the showrunner has a 12 season plan… obviously incredibly ambitious and highly unlikely given Netflix’s record for having their shows go on for a long time… only a handful have managed to get past 5 or so seasons.
But I digress, Netflix spent big money on this and it has paid off. The show looks fantastic in every single scene. It only sits behind Succession’s masterful final season as my favourite show of this year.
