Fat Pizza turning 20

Before there was Darradong Local Council, there was Paul Fenech's very first cult hit.

Darradong Local Council debuts tonight on 7mate, the latest in a line of outrageous, knockabout comedies from Paul Fenech.

This year also marks 20 years since his feature film and cult classic Fat Pizza, which spawned a Pizza TV series and his prolific Fenech output. He would even go on to win an unexpected Logie award.

Fat Pizza will be screening in cinemas in Sydney & Melbourne with cast and a Q+A from Fenech: Friday November 3 at
The Chauvel and Saturday November 4 at The Astor.

Here’s the somewhat inappropriate synopsis for the 2003 film: As Bobo Gigliotti (Johnny Boxer), an ageing, virginal pizza chef, impatiently awaits the arrival of his Southeast Asian mail-order bride, his hapless employees turn to juvenile antics to propel themselves through the doldrums of wage slavery in Sydney. But, when the grand opening of rival pie-peddler Phat Pizza threatens to run Gigliotti’s already dysfunctional restaurant into the ground, the desperate chef must struggle to prove he’s the “big cheese.”

But if you can’t wait until then, Darradong Local Council screens at 9:30pm tonight on 7mate.
