Q+A: Nov 13

ABC looks to the conflict in the Middle East and domestic issues for the Albanese Government.

Q+A is from Melbourne on Monday.

This week on Q+A… the conflict tearing apart the Middle East. A month ago, Hamas militants launched their deadly terror attack on Israel. Since then, thousands of people – including children – have been killed and the world is holding its breath amid fears of a broader regional conflict. Where to from here?

As calls for a ceasefire grow louder, Israel says there will be no humanitarian pause in fighting without the release of all hostages. Aid workers say a halt on hostilities is essential to get much-needed supplies into Gaza, while the UN chief says it’s time to end the “spiral of escalation”. Will leaders listen?

Meanwhile, domestic issues are mounting for the Albanese Government, with yet another rate rise putting pressure on already cash-strapped households. It’s the 13th hike since May last year, when the Reserve Bank vowed to curb inflation, and may not be the last. Can the PM manage to help households without adding to the inflation problem?

Panellists:
Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Tim Watts,
UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the occupied Palestinian Territories Francesca Albanese,
Former Australian Ambassador to Israel Dave Sharma,
President of the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network
Mark Leibler National Chairman of The Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council

Monday, 13 November at 9.35pm on ABC.
