Airdate: Winter Youth Olympic Games 2024

Opening Ceremony is Live from Gangwon 2024 in South Korea this Friday.

Nine’s Olympic and Paralympic year begins with the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024 in South Korea this Friday.

The 12-day competition featuring 1900 young athletes from 70 countries, including Australia.

Only the fourth Winter Youth Olympic Games to be held, the event at Gangwon near Seoul and features 7 sports, 15 disciplines and 81 events.

Nine’s Director of Sport, Brent Williams, said: “Gangwon 2024 officially marks the beginning of Nine’s decade long Olympic Games partnership and embodies everything that is inspiring about the Olympic Movement. Australia’s elite young athletes will be competing on the global stage and providing the country with a glimpse of their immense talents. Olympic stars of tomorrow will be unearthed and we look forward to sharing their journeys and their stories.”

With daily highlight packages of all the action on 9Go! or 9Gem, and 9Now – as well as Australia-specific highlights on 9Now – Gangwon 2024 will see some of Australia’s most talented teenage elite athletes strive for sporting greatness.

Australia is expected to field a team of 53 athletes competing in biathlon, ice hockey, short track speed skating, figure skating, alpine skiing, cross country skiing, freestyle skiing and snowboard.

In an Australian first, Kryshtof Pradeaux and Peyton Bellamy-Martins will compete in the figure skating pairs event, while Sienna Kaczmarczyk has been selected for the women’s figure skating singles event – the first Australian woman to compete in this event since the Innsbruck 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games.

  • 9Now will screen Best Moments from Team Australia every morning after each evening.
