Courtney Act will host ABC’s Mardi Gras broadcast in March.
ABC’s Head of Arts, Music and Events, Kath Earle, who just finished overseeing New Year’s Eve coverage said recently, “We do over 20 events every year, so we’re kept very busy but some of the highlights for (2024) include the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, which I’m pleased to say is going to be hosted by the fabulous Courtney Act.”
Further names are expected to be confirmed soon.
In 2023 the presenting team included Nate Byrne, Jack Evans and Mon Schafter with Jeremy Fernandez, Zindzi Okenyo and Mel Buttle on the ground . Casey Donovan, Courtney Act, Rhys Nicholson and Brihony Dawson also hosted the WorldPride concert.
The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras will take place on Saturday March 2nd.

Good to see Courtney Act announced as host. Am interested to see further announcements from ABC about their coverage.
I think Courtney Act is akin to ABC’s cultural ambassador for LGBT+, also host of Courtney Act’s One Plus One. I hope the Mardi Gras doesn’t exclude people, groups or organisations that want to be a part of it. Liberals also has an interesting nomination for a particular electorate, so it shows that it’s possible to be a “broad church”. I think be united and not divided with schisms.
Is it going to be live? SBS was nominated for the MIPCOM Diversify Awards 2020 in Cannes, and an AACTA award after the broadcast went live. It’s a big factor to go live.
It makes sense to broadcast live and replay on Iview. I think ABC did broadcast 2023 Mardi Gras parade live as part of World Pride celebrations.
ABC TV show it live in AEDT states and on iview. Delayed in other time zones.
The interstate broadcasts were mentioned in comments with the New Year’s articles. They should strive to broadcast live in all states and territories. It’s more respectable and responsible, even for their own ratings as well. So what if they have to rearrange their schedules to fit it in. That’s what expertise and professionalism in broadcasting is all about. Australia has matured and it’s important to show importance across the nation. Delayed broadcasts are almost like an insult, if it wasn’t for the regional variations.
Fireworks were live on ABC News and I think all live on iview. I suspect difficult to get WA viewers to celebrate 3 hours earlier.
