AIDC 2024: Skin in the Game, NRL doco in production for NITV

Marlee Silva, daughter of ex-NRL player Rod Silva, features in a doco on the world of rugby league from a female perspective.

Southern Pictures are currently in production on a sports documentary, Skin in the Game, for NITV.

Speaking at the Australian International Documentary Conference, Marissa McDowell, Head of Commissions told delegates, “Access can take you into another world that you have never seen before, which is super appealing for our audiences, but also for our network.

“One example of this at NITV through is a recent documentary Skin in the Game, which is produced by Southern Pictures. This is a single documentary, which takes us in the world of rugby league. What I love about this is the world of rugby league through a female perspective,” she said.

“It looks at culture, sexual discrimination, and the way that women have to navigate across different sporting different fields. It’s seen through Marlee Silva’s access through her father, Rod Silva, who’s a football star and legend.”

Skin in the Game is written and directed by Dena Curtis, with Silva, Laurie Critchley, and Georgia Woodward executive producing.

“This was also pitched at AIDC. So just to let you know that we do take pitches from AIDC, and they do go into production,” McDowell said.

  1. I look forward to a documentary about rugby league through the eyes of a male with the culture and sexual discrimination of the women’s locker room.
