Screen Producers Awards 2024: winners

Werner Film Productions dominates annual Producers Awards, plus wins for Wooden Horse and Guesswork Television.

Werner Film Productions were the big winners at last night’s Screen Producers Awards 2024, taking out three categories.

The company headed by Joanna Werner won Production Business of the Year, while The Newsreader won the Drama Series category and Crazy Fun Park was awarded the top Children’s prize. Earlier this week Werner Films announced it had been acquired by BBC Studios Australia.

Wooden Horse Productions picked up Breakthrough Business of the Year while Disney+ series The Clearing won Telemovie or Miniseries Production of the Year.  Guesswork Television also had dual wins for Hard Quiz and Deadloch.

The ceremony, hosted by comedian Matt Okine, also honoured Fiona Eagger and Deborah Cox from Every Cloud Productions with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

“As we celebrate the remarkable achievements of Australian screen producers at the 22nd Annual SPA Awards, it’s clear that our production community continues to thrive in the face of a rapidly changing landscape,” said SPA CEO Matthew Deaner.

“Each winner exemplifies the creativity, innovation, and dedication that define our industry and showcase the vital role producers and production businesses play in sharing our unique stories and culture with audiences worldwide.

“It was an honour to stand among industry leaders as we celebrated the success of local stories and businesses, showcasing the incredible talent and resilience of our creative sector.”

The event concluded a 3 day Screen Forever conference on the Gold Coast with a 2025 event confirmed for 6-8 May 2025.

  1. Whatever happened to their Commissioner of the Year award? They did it for a couple of years and I read somewhere a list of nominations for this year, but did they not end up awarding it?
