Foxtel magazine shrinks editorial by 34 pages

It's a huge reduction in stories, interviews, behind the scenes and show recommendations for Foxtel subscribers.

The May edition of the monthly Foxtel magazine has unveiled the new-look edition going forward.

As previously reported, the subscriber mag is focussing on TV listings and all but ditching its editorial content.

The May edition has 2 pages of editorial, down from 36 in April.

It highlights just 5 Foxtel titles, including AFL, and one monthly highlight each from Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and Paramount+.

Even movie recommendations from Margaret Pomeranz are no more…

In a statement Foxtel recently told TV Tonight, “From May 2024 the Foxtel Magazine will have a new-look format hero-ing the channel guide and select editorial features on content for the month ahead.

“Our research shows that our readers favour the channel guide as a go-to resource each month as they plan their next watch so we have evolved the format in line with that feedback whilst continuing to reduce our environmental footprint.”

  1. Ssssh … but chopping editorial means chopping editorial jobs and saving a motza in wages …but surely that is not the case ? All to do with saving trees I believe.

  2. If they halved the price I’d add it back to my subscription. I never cared for the articles/interviews etc… All I wanted from the mag was comprehensive listings and notes about what’s new on the service that month.

  3. If they really cared about “continuing to reduce our environmental footprint” they’d just axe the magazine altogether. Seriously, the days of printing a monthly TV guide when there are a lot of things that can change at short notice, when all the information is available via the platforms subscribers actually use to view their content, are surely long gone… I don’t see how it could even make money for them unless there is advertising $$ attached, or they have a lot of oldies who like to receive them?!

  4. To be honest…even if it was free….I would hang it on a nail in an outside dunny…..if I had one that is….it’s absolute rubbish for $6…not even their My Foxtel guide is any good …they have The Bake Off Pop Up channel with Columbia Movies on it….I’m guessing that’s staffing problems too….they recently sent me an email advising they were changing my package without consulting me…but it worked out better because their “staffing problem” elevated me to platinum including Sports which I never watch…and even better it is quite cheaper than the previous platinum package…

  5. Yet there’s still room for an interview with a Sports star (Eddie Betts) about the past –
    nothing to do with programing.

    Some things don’t change.

  6. Just got the New Look Foxtel Magazine and I hate it they should put it back to the original format and give us something to read not just the TV Listings the original format was the best and was great value for money

  7. Guess they’ve axed their staff then as logically it’s the editorial where they can add value to the product, pointing people online or to their electronic guide for listings information.

  8. I’d be interested in Foxtel’s explanation of why they are charging random prices for the exact same service.
So many people are complaining after sharing how much they are paying per month for the exact same thing. Charges are all over the shop.

  9. Wow I got my magazine this week & wondered where the rest of the magazine was. What utter rubbish. I read the articles on the shows to decide what interests me to watch. Who are these readers they spoke to?
