Heroes revival in development

Time for a new group of heroes to save the world?

US superhero drama Heroes is looking to return.

The original Heroes ran for four seasons from 2007 – 2010 with cast including Hayden Panettiere, Santiago Cabrera, Jack Coleman, Tawny Cypress, Noah Gray-Cabey, Greg Grunberg, Ali Larter and Masi Oka.

There was also Heroes: Reborn, a 2015 limited series.

Now creator Tim Kring is developing Heroes: Eclipsed, set years after the events of the original series as new evos are being awakened and discovering powers that will change their lives. Featuring familiar villains and new enemies who once again will be attempting to suppress this next step in human evolution, it will be up to this new group of heroes to save the world.

  1. Even though ‘Heroes’ was done to death in its previous iteration, the producers must feel that there’s plenty more left to tell. In my opinion the only possible reason for Heroes to revive its past success would be that the newer generations of Heroes fans will be just as attracted to the creative concept as past generations were, but that’s asking a lot for an unoriginal superhero concept which has had numerous similar themed shows produced in recent years. Unless a deal was done with the studio I would predict only one season will be released.

  2. Who can forget the hype around this show’s launch 17 years ago, I think Seven’s first from their then new NBC-U output, poaching it from Ten after they had it for 20 years. A time too when Seven had been making serious dents in the ratings across 2005 and 2006 and would go on to win 2007 memorably. Sadly for Heroes, similar to other US shows at the time which started out as hits, the audience quickly fell away, luckily Aussie drama was still high then among FTA in general.
