Jonathan Majors sentenced to domestic violence program, avoids jail.

US actor faced up to a year behind bars having been convicted of misdemeanour assault in December.

US actor Jonathan Majors (Lovecraft Country, Loki, Creed III, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania) has avoided jail after assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

Majors, 34, had faced up to a year behind bars having been convicted of misdemeanour assault by a jury in December.

Judge Michael Gaffey ordered Majors to complete a year-long in-person intervention program. He also has to continue with his mental health therapy.

The conviction stemmed from an altercation last March in which Majors’ then-girlfriend Grace Jabbari accused him of attacking her in the back seat of a car.

During a victim impact statement, Ms Jabbari said the incident left her with extreme emotional and physical pain.

Majors claimed the 31-year-old British dancer was the aggressor, flying into a jealous rage after reading a text message from another woman on his phone. He maintained he was only trying to regain his phone and get away from Ms Jabbari safely.

In sentencing, Judge Gaffey also issued a permanent order of protection against any contact whatsoever with Jabbari. The actor cannot apply for or own a gun, the judge also said. Any violation of the sentencing terms could result in Majors being put behind bars for up to 364 days. If Majors does not complete the West Coast intervention program, he could also face six months in jail.

Marvel dropped the actor on the day he was convicted of assault and harassment.
