Seven in the Spotlight

Current affairs show conduct is at the centre of defamation case's final act.

Outgoing Seven Commercial Director Bruce McWilliam tendered an affidavit to the Federal Court yesterday in a day of drama in the defamation case between Bruce Lehrmann vs Network 10 / Lisa Wilkinson.

Seven was required to return two subpoenas it received relating to any documents they may have obtained from Lehrmann for its Spotlight interviews last year.

“Given Mr Llewellyn’s status as executive producer, I had no reason to doubt his indication that no written or electronic communications with Mr Lehrmann existed and consistent with that indication extensive searches of Seven’s email system were not performed at that time,” McWilliam said in his affidavit.

Former Spotlight producer Taylor Auerbach is yet to conclude giving his evidence, under cross examination by Lehrmann’s barrister, Matthew Richardson SC.

Media reports speculate as to the future of the current affairs show, due to resume on April 14.
