  1. …and that’s fair enough.

In regards to commercialisation, even though it probably hasn’t quite reached the same levels as “Cross Promotion and Product Placement in The Domain” I think it has increased on Carols By Candlelight in recent years. While it would seem CBC don’t have a naming sponsor this year, for the previous few we had insurance giant AAMI with a fairly lengthy sponsored segment and branded Santa hats. I’m also sure Woolworths was a Carols By Candlelight sponsor in the not overly distant past, in addition to the supermarket chain having its fingerprints on the Sydney/Seven equivalent for about the last 20 years now.

Also, aren’t the almost telethon-esque vignettes for Vision Australia a relatively recent addition to the telecast? Which of course isn’t to say there hasn’t been promotion for VH and related things (eg, tickers for 2RPH and other cities’ equivalent radio stations) during Carols for years but I feel the tactics may have changed in recent times nonetheless.

  2. Like anyone really needed to know the airdate of the Carols by Candlelight.

I prefer the Carols by Candlelight over the Carols in the Domain because it’s live, it’s on Christmas Eve (so you can really appreciate the people giving up their time. A lot of people don’t work the day before Christmas, those bosses who do make their employees work, I hope are haunted by three ghosts that night) and less commercialised than the Carols in the Domain.
