Airdate: Carols by Candlelight 2023

Paul Kelly, Emma Watkins, Marcia Hines, Bowen*Young, Marina Prior, David Hobson, Denis Walter & Silvie Paladino performing.

Key talent for this year’s Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight at Sidney Myer Music Bowl have been announced.

Paul Kelly will make his debut with his classic Christmas track, How to Make Gravy.

“I’m a ’newbie’ at Carols. It will be my very first time singing there. Excited!” he said.

Also joining this year is husband-wife duo Bowen*Young will be making their debut as a duo. Clare Bowen is best known for playing the role of Scarlett O’Connor in Nashville who married husband Brandon Robert Young  in 2017. They will be joined by Clare’s younger brother, Timothy James Bowen.

Also featuring are Emma Watkins aka ‘Emma Memma’, and the cast of Grease The Musical, (including Marcia Hines, Patti Newton Jay Laga’aia)  – Marcia Hines will also perform a solo.

The ‘Carols family’ Marina Prior, David Hobson, Denis Walter and Silvie Paladino will perform (but not Anthony Callea & Tim Campbell).

More names are to be announced in coming weeks.

Also featuring are musical director  John Foreman OAM, Carols by Candlelight choirmaster Doug Heywood OAM, The Australian Girls Choir, the National Boys Choir and ‘Santa Claus.’

Hosts of this year’s event will be announced soon.

  1. Finally, for years I’ve been saying they should get Paul Kelly on and sing his smash hit. Just freshen things up a bit and get some new voices on.

    Disappointed no Tim or Anthony but they have just been touring so it’s understandable they probbaly want a night off.

  2. It won’t be the same without Anthony & Tim.
    I always look forward to seeing what songs Anthony will perform (& what he’s wearing).
    Hopefully we’ll see Rob Mills & Bobby Fox too – love those two.

  3. Paul Kelly and Emma Memma are good gets. Ever since your newsletter David, I have been wondering why Anthony and Tim aren’t performing as they seem to love it so much. No Rob Mills either?

      1. That’s completely fair and hope the public respects that, many many years now too, Callea 20 years? But damn, his voice is majestic, one of everyone’s favourites especially a traditional hymn or what have you. I guess Silvie’s got it in the bag yet again this year.
