  1. Foxtel has rebranded some of their channels, being Comedy, SciFi, Classics, and Sleuth, by dropping the ‘Fox’ prefix to the channel names, and gave them refreshed logos. Strange that they kept the Fox prefix on other channels like Showcase and Crime.

    1. Rebranding is always an expensive exercise. Noting the number of channels we have lost this year alone, most without replacement, and with no commensurate price reduction for the consumer, this rebrand will probably be cost neutral at worst…

  2. Big brother returns to the uk on the 8th of October it would be great if it was on 7plus and the icing on the cake would be for 7plus to be available on Foxtel I wonder why they aren’t it’s the only one that isn’t

  3. Why has Australian TV all but abandoned the glitzy Saturday-night shiny floor show that the British public tend to watch in droves?

Yes, I know there were a few short-lived attempts at that style of format in recent years, I even admit to watching every episode of that local version of Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway with Julia Morris and Dr Chris Brown. (I thought it felt like a cheap imitation of the UK original with D-list celebrity guests!)

And yes, I know of The Masked Singer and all those singing and dancing talent shows out there, but they’re not the same!

    1. Different cultures. Especially now with the weather warming up people will be more likely to be having BBQ’s at the park or beach than sitting in front of the TV screen.

        1. 1m watched the AFL final in the afternoon. 750,000 watch the NRL final at night. The ABC, Ten, SBS mostly repeats all night. The exceptions a sensational tabloid documentary that claimed Frogmore House is cursed and an episode of Shakespeare and Hathway. They weren’t exactly spending any money trying to attract viewers.

    2. It worked 40 years ago as it was one of the 4 or 5 viewing options we had. Today we are spoilt for choice with the endless streaming options available showing almost every TV show, movie or sport known to man. Unfortunately, what was great back then, wouldn’t give a viewing yelp today…

  4. A lot of love pouring out on social media (even trending!) for the legendary Sandy Roberts tonight, with a special and fabulous appearance on The Front Bar, also battling illness as revealed in May (much like long-time colleague and mate Bruce McAvaney), while TVT recently did a story on another long-time colleague in Garry Wilkinson. ‘Sandles’ (as long-time colleague Johanna Griggs affectionately calls) did it all at Seven Sport… Olympics for 28 years (from Moscow 1980 to Beijing 2008), Australian Opens/Davis Cups for 25+ years, Golf for 20 years, VFL/AFL for 20 years until losing rights in 2001 (including a reported 1000+ games called!), V8s for years, Melbourne Cups in the 2000s, Comm Games, even a Brownlow Medal at short notice in 2009 to cover for Bruce McAvaney (as Bruce’s father passed), Seven News Melbourne sport from 2005 to 2013 and Fox Footy to finish. Bravo buddy 🙂 A missed opportunity for TVT “Daily Pick” I reckon.

  5. Anyone have any idea of any of the following

    – Screw Season 2 release date?
    – Juice BBC One show release date in Australia?
    – Solar Opposites S4B on Disney+

Honestly – the more I try to pay for streaming the less and less I find on these platforms.

    1. Fans of the show here apparently don’t understand that it’s not being made for a local audience anymore-now aimed at the UK and now US audiences (at least that is what the new backers hope!). Viewership here is pretty irrelevant, as is illustrated by the odd scheduling of it on 10 .

  6. Neighbours introduced the new opening titles tonight. The version on 10 differs from the version on Freevee for some odd reason. They’ve used alternative shots and different placement of when the characters are shown. I think both versions are actually terrible, they’ve removed character names and cast names, plus that new version of the theme is horrendous, more so than the Bonnie Anderson version which I thought nobody could have made worse.

  7. Any reason why I cannot watch the new episode of Neighbours on amazon prime? It is there, but a This Video is Currently unavailable message is also there. I know you can watch it through 10 play and on 10 at 4pm, but why not amazon prime, on the 18th(yesterday when it dropped)?

  8. This is a bit of an odd story, though it’s a TV story nonetheless. It came back to mind after the recent news reports. Many years ago, when Rage had forums, they would put out names they had for possible guest programmers. They were experimenting with using comedians as guest programmers. They were going to get Russell Brand to guest program Rage. I recall myself and others wrote against that. My explanation was the radio controversy and that it was disrespectful to the Sachs family. Russell was still hugely popular and they were considering having him on. This may have involved paying for flights, accommodation and probably the gig itself. I remember they decided against it based on the feedback. I appreciate that they took on the mantra of “Your ABC” and the consultative process.

      1. Yes it is mostly touring artists and musicians. I know they’re quite skint to afford that. I have vague recollection of them bringing in stars from overseas. Honestly, I could be entirely wrong about that. It’d have to be confirmed with ABC. The story is correct and could possibly be found trawling through some web archive. A lot of initiatives came from the ABC forums and message boards. It’s not the same now because of the culture and style of the social media platforms, compared with direct website interactions. I think it’s important to have feedback options.

  9. Thought for today:

Pay TV and streaming aside, there hasn’t ever been a big imported show airing on FTA primetime since the days of when Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory dominated the 7pm slot.

Even shows that would have fit that slot then like Young Sheldon have been shunted to the multi-channels and familiar faves that have an audience like Simpsons and Grey’s Anatomy have moved to streaming.

Perhaps, viewing habits are changing after all!

    1. US Networks aren’t making any big shows, they don’t have the revenue and represent less than 50% of viewing. This season shows have been cut back to half seasons starting in 2024. Viewing of US shows here is way down, Young Sheldon was doing badly before Nine moved to repeats of S1-5 over and over on Go. Though, even Bay Of Fires which was on the ABC without ads, got most of its viewings from 2 repeat screenings and iView. Grey’s Anatomy, Abbot Elementary and Alaska Daily aren’t big and are on Disney+. CBS has has also move a lot of it’s shows to Paramount+. Universal shows are mostly on Foxtel. People still watch drama, but when they can sit down, stream and concerntrate on them. This season of the Rookie has been pretty poor, though there are few good episode (and some really bad ones) at the end. There was even a watchable episode of Rookie Feds last week.

  10. Can anyone help? In the calendar section (list of upcoming shows in September). There was a kids show, something like “The voice kids” or “masterchef kids” that was going to appear on ABC Kids. Its not showing in the calendar section now and is not mentioned anywhere in the tvtonight site. Does anyone know what the show was called and if it was cancelled?

    1. The Voice belongs to 7….Masterchef to 10….so would not be on ABC….
I searched iview….only thing I can see is ‘Mythbusters Junior’…..series 1….4 episodes….episode #1…’This episode was published 4 weeks ago, available until 1:03pm on 18 Sep 2023’….Hope this helps.

        1. All good…it is what I do….I like searching things out and helping others….not just here….Happy viewing! …and thank you David Knox for your indulgence…

  11. Good to see that both seasons of the Zahn McClarnon starring crime drama ‘Dark Winds’ has been added to SBS On Demand recently. Reviews have been fairly strong.

  12. Enjoying the addition of Plutotv on 10play mainly Beverly Hills 90210 one of my all time favourites. Why is only seasons 1-4 showing why not all 10 seasons?

On another note stumbled on a show The Exes originally aired 2011-2015 on 10play it is always nice to find something new.

    1. If they show 293 episodes in sequence how many eps would you actually be able to catch watching random episodes.
They will repeat S1-4 over and over an if it does well enough move on to S5-10.

  13. I note 10 have another dog show on next Sunday at 7.30pm, meaning The Masked Singer will only be on Monday nights. As we have to vote off another 8 people, is this series going to run into November???

      1. I saw some promos and most of the celebrities’ don’t appeal or are unknown! After the last two seasons that went for absolutely eons, I will skip this season. I can’t stomach any TAR for multiple 90 minute episodes a week and worry that the US version will be similar when it appears (extended due to the Writers Strike)

    1. I agree with your thoughts on this sf… There’s an in-between compromise that 10 often fail to find… and 2 nights per week (not necessarily in succession) is it. They go from MasterChef which is often on 4-5 nights per week to ‘The Masked Singer’ on once per week. I think ‘Traitors’ was on mostly twice per week and it felt perfect.

  14. I don’t know what I am doing wrong with 10play…lets me log in…little pic says it is playing but just a blank black screen… triangle button….just disappears when clicked on??…Does say on top Live TV with Pluto?..all of their channels are the same.

        1. Aaah after much toing and froing…they want me to change my Firefox settings to accommodate their changes early this month…..their loss…not doing that…I do not want everything I go to flooded with ads….plenty of other things to watch.

          1. Slow learner…penny just dropped….all I had to do was turn off the shield thingy just on 10play…without changing my whole Firefox settings….2 second fix …*duh* 🙄

  15. Breaking news: Channel 10 has confirmed that they will have the Australian rights to the Dannii Minogue BBC dating series “I Kissed A Boy”. The show will be exclusive to 10play and will be available from Wednesday, 13th September.

  16. Anyone else noticed 10 Peach originally had the VMAS scheduled to broadcast Live, but now it’s at a 2 hour delay?
With MTV removed from Foxtel, I thought 10/Paramount would’ve made the extra effort.

  17. 10 are running promos for ‘Neighbours’ at 4:30pm and ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ moving to 4pm after 27 years (the horror)! In 10’s promos, 10 state ‘Bold’ moves to 4pm weekdays. Last time I checked “weekdays” are Monday-Friday. But what 10 fail to mention (in their promos), is that Bold will air at 4.30pm on Friday’s. Such silly scheduling, people want a consistent timeslot.

      1. Not having a go at you David. I (we) all appreciate your informed exclusives. The problem I have is 10’s use of the word “weekdays” in their promos. Neighbours won’t even air on Friday’s, and saying Bold is 4pm weekdays is a stretch.

        1. It’s 90% accurate. BB and Neighbours Mon-Thurs is 100% accurate, doesn’t change anything except some people might forget the Friday episode and who does that help? Neitherfans nor Ten.
