  1. So Seven has so far advertised the Japan v Sweden game on 7/7plus, 7Mate, 72 in SD, and now they have just run an ad for 7Mate/7+. It’s still listed for 72. On Mate if it goes to ET it will clash with their AFL game. They seem a bit conflicted.

  2. I see this week that Bargain Hunt on 72 has reverted to old Tim Whatsits episodes.
Think it might be time for me to switch over to Antiques Roadshow on 95.

  3. I saw today that Disney+ is increasing subscription fees in the US and later in Europe, Disney will also be cracking down on password sharing next year. The US price increases for Disney+ will be from $11 USD to $14 USD a month this October, the add free Hulu plan will increase from $15 USD to $18 USD a month, on 16 September Disney plans to launch in America an add free bundle of Hulu and Disney+ for $20 USD a month. No mention of our region but it would be fair to believe that these price increases will become global at some point as Disney needs to get profitable again. What this will do for Disney+ subscriber numbers which are already dropping only time will tell.

    1. Once Netflix moved Disney+ would follow. The minor streamers will probably increase by smaller amounts as they are still trying to buy subscribers. Amazon and Apple TV are loyalty programs for their highly profitable brands so they’re likely to be slower to move. But on we will be either watching 20 minutes ads an hour like on FTA, or paying more for subscriptions than we did for a cable service the aggregated most content. before streaming disrupted them. And of course for the overpriced poor service of the NBN (unless space internet disrupts them out of business). Some time the streamers are to have to cover their costs and generate a return on investment. That includes what ever salary and residual increases the Guilds get, and the increase in cost from not being able to use AI, like the rest of the US economy.

    1. Australia is up to date on The Amazing Race US. Channel 7 plays the show usually in a 9.30pm or 10.30pm slot on the primary channel. Not sure if they’ll keep that timeslot for the new season with the 90 minute episodes.

  4. I really like it when Christina Aventi is on Gruen. She can be savagely funny and scathing at times, but also incredibly insightful and articulate. She’s whip smart and intimidatingly knowledgable. I really enjoy her comments. My favourite rotating panel member for sure.

    1. She’s my favourite guest, hands down. Not only knowledgable about advertising, but incredible understanding of human nature. Combined with the ability to articulate so well.

  5. With Neighbours coming back to 10 in September, I’m assuming 10 will also revamp the 12pm-4pm block of programming. With Bold at 4pm and 10’s commitment to the afternoon cooking shows (Everyday Gourmet, Farm to Fork etc.) they too will get a new time. Perhaps Dr Phil will bow out given his last episode aired in the US in May. With Judge Judy, 10 has been airing replays since December 2021 when the final episode aired. I’m curious if the midday news rates and is sustainable. The 2pm encore of the previous evenings offering will undoubtably remain, or perhaps move to an earlier slot.

  6. What happened to the Detectorists xmas special from 2022? I do not believe it has aired in australia, including britbox, I know for a fact it is not available on apple store to buy, only Season 1-3, and the first xmas special(there were 2 including the 2022 one). Does acon want australians to pirate it from other means? Pathetic 7 + months on and it has still not aired, which means you can’t buy the HD version on apple or the SD on dvd.

    1. Acorn put in money and had exclusive US rights. The BBC were originally going to air it a few days after Christmas but then moved it to BBC Two on Boxing Day. Not sure who has Australian rights, it might appear a Christmas.

  7. And does anyone know what has happened to Big Brother, Celebrity Apprentice & Australian Ninja Warrior.??
    Are they coming back, when!??

    Cheers thanks!

      1. Thank You very much David for letting me know this.. So I hope it sounds like Celebrity Apprentice & Australian Ninja Warrior will come back Return to Channel 9 Next Year!!
Never should have been replaced by The Summit & Rush.
Wrong Decision.. was a Major Disaster!!

  8. On the poll (what to put in place at 5pm instead of millionaire) my vote would go to Pointless (UK or revive Aus version). This wasn’t on the list, but its companion show Tipping Point was.

    1. Shouldn’t 4pm be the time in the poll? As that’s when Millionaire Hotseat airs for Adelaide viewers. 5pm is news. I agree with Pointless. Maybe Nine could show the spin-off Celebrity version.

  9. Couple questions regarding the Nickelodeon free to air channel. Why isn’t Rugrats on there? I thought it was part of the brand. Where does new South Park episodes now get shown?

    1. Nickelodeon sold the rights to Amazon and Paramount+ when it was rereleased on DVD. It’s currently available to stream on Paramount+, Amazon, Apple TV and to buy from The Apple Store and Microsoft in Australia, according to Just Watch It.

  10. Hi David, I know you’ve asked 10 many times in the past when 10play will upgrade to HD. Do you mind asking again, especially since Pluto TV will sit under their platform here? All other territories stream Pluto in HD.

    1. When there’s limited bandwidth on terrestrial, the networks should be broadcasting at the highest possible resolution on streaming. Do anything that can be seen to be done that will retain or even increase audiences. I’ve mentioned before the +1 hour (time delay) channels, and there could even be +2 channels for streaming. Obvious things that can be done to increase audience, and market share and revenue for commercial networks.

  11. “This week ABC claimed Four Corners was given a tip whilst preparing a story but had no knowledge what was at the address or that it was someone’s house.”

The old I’m a brilliant investigative journalist who’s too stupid to look up an address on my phone defence before driving in a random direction and ending up their defence? When I was driving down a street full of mansions in Perth’s richest suburbs I was expecting to find a 4 hectare gas liquification plant at the bottom of the hill.

How does someone who lies this badly even keep a job as a journalist?

  12. I read earlier today that Amazon will release 18 more ‘iconic episodes’ of Neighbours next week. I’m hoping this time around they actually chose decent episodes and not just one’s which guest starred a Hemsworth or the like, and not episodes from the full seasons already available. I’d like to get the episode when Terri shoots Paul, The Kennedy’s arrival, the 1993 Waterhole explosion, Julie Martin’s death, and many other big episodes of the 80’s and 90’s.

  13. Snap assessment: did anyone else think Thank God You’re Here was a little rough? It also irritated me beyond belief how close the camera was on Celia and most of the performers the entire episode. Some ok laughs but just felt a little rushed to me. Maybe I’m being a bit tough…?

      1. Definitely some good moments of course, I thought Julia was better than Aaron. Really great to see new blood walk through though and I like that they seem to have at least a legacy performer each week with Fifi returning next week alongside three newcomers. So good to have it back though!!

    1. Absolutely loved it last night, Aaron and Julia were the best for me. I was laughing that much had tears for most of the show. I’ve got tickets to see it in a few weeks.

    2. I really enjoyed it. Great to have a good laugh. Thought Julia Zemiro was great. I have to disagree with David, I didn’t find Aaron funny at all. I thought he struggled with the concept but most comments on social media loved him so each to their own I guess. Looking forward to next week

    3. My take aways. The format works and works well. Julia hasn’t missed a beat. She was one of the best performers in earlier iterations, and was clearly the best last night. Aaron is a funny guy when doing scripted stuff, but I think this improv style, caught him out a tad. Urzila is a great get for the show and I hope to see more of her. I have no idea who the other guy was, but he wasn’t funny. I know Ed is the Ensemble Director now, so the best part of the show was seeing the original ensemble cast member, Nicola Parry, back there, front and centre, steering the skit – she was great. I was waiting all show for a little Ed cameo too…

    4. It may get there, given a few more weeks to settle. Aaron was definitely the weak spot for me, his comedy style is likely not improv. Celia shouted most of the hour, and as one of my favourite actors I was wishing I could turn her voice off. Julia was the standout, of course. I wondered why the crowd was so close to the stage?

I hope we don’t get a procession of Channel 10 faces every week. I would rather have unknowns who can really do improv.

I missed the final scene with the slanted floor, that was always the funniest part of the show.

  14. DVD and Blu-ray collectors should take note that Disney will no longer be releasing or supplying these products in Australia and NZ, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 being the last physical release. The decision is reportedly due to dwindling sales of physical disks and the increase in the popularity of streaming services.

  15. After watching three episodes of Bay of Fires I am bailing. Don’t find it quirky or the slightest bit engaging. Not one Sunday Aussie drama I have watched in its entirety this year on ABC …. In 2023 for me The Newsreader will likely be my one standout in that slot

    1. You did well to give it 3, I bailed after ep 1. Didn’t engage me at all. Don’t mind quirky but this was just plain silly. Very disappointing as Marta D is usually very watchable.

    2. I agree. Apparently Marta took influence and inspiration from Ozark among other shows of that ilk… It’s a long way from that. It is silly. The tone just doesn’t feel right. I heard that from episode five they change directors and in doing so the entire show changes… so take that as you like, because it’s been a bit of a slog so far. Aussie drama this yeah has been mediocre at best. Only Deadloch, Love Me S2 and Totally Completely Fine have garnered any enthusiasm from me after watching. The less said about shows such as The Clearing, Black Snow and Year Of the better… and I could go on.

    3. I’m still with it, but it is a slog when it seems that every character is a baddie. There’s no light and shade in the townspeople, and I have never seen an Aussie town so outright nasty to strangers. I also find Marta’s character a bit weak as a parent – the boy walks all over her and she shows no parental authority.

  16. Is it just me. I am finding it annoying watching Hunters on 10 Play. I am not watching whole episodes at once. But whenever I go back to an episode to continue watching . It hasn’t saved what I have watched and I have to fast forward and guess where I am up to. Anyone else notice this with 10Play or know if there is a trick I need to know. I use Amazon Fire stick.

    1. It shows that there is a need for resume functionality if it isn’t there. It’s a function I would use and can increase viewers to the streaming platforms at any given time.

    2. Stan is the same with its sports channel, watching rugby if you want to take a long break you cant return to the game coverage you stopped at and are required to fast forward from the start again, I’m sure adding more streaming functionality wouldn’t break the bank for either Stan or 10 Play. I do note that some games do end up on Google TV’s watching list and can be resumed at the same point where I stopped, which I find curious.

  17. In recent weeks, TEN has been starting the midday news at 12:03pm or 12:04pm. Prior to that, it always commenced bang on time. TEN: get back to basics and start news on time, at the top of the hour. Surely it’s not hard to back-time Studio 10 from midday? If Ten can manage to back-time the afternoon schedule so that the 5pm news starts on time, they can do the same for the 12pm news.

    1. It’s stupid to do that. Back timing through several ‘live’ hours is simples. Whilst the 6pm 7 & 9 News generally start at 5:59 there’s no logic in starting a ‘midday’ news late, especially when ABC News and Sky News (as free to regional viewers in 10-something), start at 12:00:00. If 10 us still flogging air fryers at 11:59:55 I’ll switch to 24. And TEN is now 10, they insist.

    2. News has traditionally been on the hour. So accurate that you could time your watch to it. These are the last sort of basic things that Ten should be getting wrong at the moment.

    1. Every source I can find cites the performer’s name as Ru Paul, with an explicit space between first name and surname. I cannot see any legitimate instance of the two parts of the name being combined into one.

    2. The CDs and DVDs show RuPaul as the title, or the stylised name. These are official releases, and surely it would’ve been corrected if the labelling was incorrect by now.

If you’re writing about or promoting, you want to go with the spelling that is most common or has the most search results for the best market reach.

The only way to know for sure is to get confirmation from RuPaul.

  18. Channel Nine buggered me by switching channels for the last two sessions of the cricket last night. Got up this morning to see I hadn’t taped squat.👿👿👿

    1. Cannot tell you how many times 9 messed up my viewing many years ago…gave up watching….Only things you can rely on is the news and ACA.
