Kath & Kim executive producer Rick McKenna has ruled out a new fifth series of the show in 2008 says the Herald Sun.
But he has hinted at a second telemovie or TV special.
“Jane and Gina start back at work next week with a coffee and a meeting, chatting about ideas,” he said.
Da Kath & Kim Code was certainly a big hit on the ABC, despite the fact that it wasn’t their best work, and was severely hamstrung by budgetary limitations. A true road-move might be a good option for the girls.
“The first telemovie took under six months from start to finish, so we’ll see,” said McKenna.

That wouldn’t be such a bad idea. If low-budget SBS-produced turd like Fat Pizza can hit the big screen, then what’s stopping Kath & Kim? But I suppose Aussie networks are hesistant to giving up their top-rating franchises to the big screen as they won’t make much (if any) money out of the theatrical release; particularly since most movies don’t air on FTA until around 2 years after they were initally released.
They should release a movie on the big screen. It would be the first Aussie film in a while to actually make some money.
The first movie was okay, but it was really lengthy considering the simplistic (and contrived) plot.
Here’s hoping for a second movie, although considering that they won’t be working on a fifth season, they could even make a third one (although it seems unlikely).
