Lifestyle to produce local Come Dine with Me

Another reality food show is coming to Oz, and is currently looking for contestants.

come-dine-with-me-S52009 continues to be the year of food.

The LifeStyle Channel has acquired format rights to UK series Come Dine with Me and commissioned Granada  to produce the show for Australia.

The 20-part half-hour series goes into production immediately to premiere in early 2010.

“Australians are obsessed with cooking and entertaining and we pride ourselves on understanding this country’s appetite for food media better than anyone else,” said Nicole Sheffield, from The LifeStyle Channel.

Come Dine With Me Australia is not only exciting for foodies, it’s exciting for all Australians. It is a format that gives people recipes and takes them into everyday Aussie homes.”

The reality show follows amateur chefs competing against each other in hosting a dinner party for the other contestants. Each week, five total strangers compete for the title of the ultimate dinner party host. Over five nights they take it in turns to cook up their idea of the perfect evening.

As well as cooking, rival hosts ‘snoop around each others’ houses’ in an effort to win the contest and a cash prize. In the UK comedian Dave Lamb adds provides dry and sarcastic narration.

Granada is currently looking for people to feature in the series.

  1. I too am addicted to this show and i hope that they get the right balance of people which makes it what it is – hilarious. Dave Lamb is brilliant he does not go over the top either.

  2. @ Barrie – You got it spot on !

Hope we can find the same type of nutters here and a new Aussie ‘Dave Lamb’ because he is the show !!
LOL regarding the cooking ability, I’ve never seen a decent full meal served yet on the show, the ‘cook/hosts’ are mainly wannabees on TV.

  3. If you have pay tv and haven’t caught this show yet don’t be put off into thinking its a cooking show. It isn’t – its a comedy that even the funniest script writers couldn’t write. Some charachters in the eps are quite boring but others are outrageous, like people you would see on the catherine tate show. I’m addicted to this show. Lifestyle Food told me that new UK eps are coming in October after the Sept rpts

  4. Fantastic! I’ve been wondering when we would get a local version. Would love to see a “celebrity” version as well.
@rattle Agree about Dave Lamb. Shaun Micallef?

  5. Looking forward to seeing a local version of this, but I must say that Dave Lamb’s sarcastic narration is one of the best parts of each episode and whoever does our version has some big boots to fill.
