Report: Damages axed

You really have to hope this isn't true, but you know deep down it is probably on the money.

You really have to hope this isn’t true, but you know deep down it is probably on the money.

TV Guide‘s Matt Roush is reporting Damages is no more.

“Where FX is concerned, it really is over for Damages. (And I’m still averaging several letters a week from very upset fans.)

“After the first year, FX gave the show two seasons to catch on, and while season 3 was a vast improvement over 2 in terms of quality and story, it didn’t draw an audience big enough to justify the expense of a star-heavy show filmed in New York. This was a business, not a creative, decision. Yes, I’ll miss it, but I looked at the third season as something of a gift and was glad the story [edit].

“I’d love to see a fourth season, but I’m satisfied with what I got. Regarding Glenn Close: Who knows? If she could find movies with characters as juicy as Patty Hewes, I’m sure she’d be thrilled. But those are far and few between. I’m betting we’d be more likely to see her return to theater for a bit while developing new projects for TV, whether on network or basic and pay cable. (She’d be very much at home on Showtime or HBO if not back on FX or even AMC, I’d think.)”

Sob!

Season Three is continues tonight on W.

  1. If true it’s very disappointing, but sadly not very surprising. Just look at what rates, both in the US and here. Shudder.

I’m currently wondering why season 3 of Damages hasn’t turned up on iTunes. Each episode of seasons 1 and 2 were put up immediately following it airing on pay TV, but no sign of season 3 yet.

  2. Still hoping that one day seasons 2 and 3 might air on FTA. Then again, I still have hopes of Monk returning to one of our digital FTA channels …

  3. sometimes ratings arent that important. some networks like to keep one or two flagship shows which might not perform ratings wise but can be used to shout out t the world what the network stands for. look at Caprica on the sci-fi channel, not fantastic ratings but its not going anywhere for many years to come because theeir CEO believes it the embodiment of syfy’s core mission and ethos.

  4. Love Damages.. especially the first season. Some of the best television ever made. The only thing I find irritating in season 2+3 is the ~soft focus…. a bit too much vaseline on the lense 🙂
