The government’s botched tender for the Australia Network contract is set to be examined by an Australian federal parliamentary committee.
The government awarded the $223m contract for the international TV service to the ABC following leaks and mismanagement by government departments. SKY News owners were eventually compensated up to $2m for the aborted tender process, after twice being recommended to win the right to manage the network.
A damning Auditor-General report in April found it had been bedevilled by ”uncertainty in relation to the decision-making process”.
The committee says it has chosen to examine the process because it did not represent best practice.
The hearing will be held later next month.

We paid $250m compensation to SKY, I would like to know how, what and why
Where did you get that figure?
For anyone that’s seen it, the various Sky features that were promised and improved and re-improved, certaibly were startling. Mostly because it proved what a wasted opportunity ABC has been making all these years.
Think of a multi-region CNN International style service, with the Aussie backdrop. Available around the globe on cable and satellite TV … amazing … and for the same price or less than the tax money is paying now.
Haven’t they got something better to do with my taxes?
