Prolific US producer Dick Wolf is in development with NBC on Chicago Law -a fourth instalment of his Chicago drama universe.

“Dick Wolf has been responsible for some of the biggest hits in NBC history, including SVU and the current three Chicago dramas, Fire, P.D. and Med,” NBC’s president of entertainment Jennifer Salke. “The Chicago universe will continue to grow as we are in active development on Chicago Law (working title).”

Earlier this month, Chicago P.D. dipped its toe into the legal world for the first time with a three-show crossover between P.D., Med and Fire.

“Would I like to do it? Of course,” Wolf said recently. “This is a dream come true. To have these three shows operating this synergistically is beyond my expectations.

“My instinct is always to double-down, but there are many masters to serve and a lot of people have to agree.”

Wolf, who famously created Law & Order and the spinoffs SVU, Criminal Intent, Trial by Jury, and Law & Order: UK, could end up with five scripted dramas on one network if Chicago Law goes to series, and if SVU and Chicago Med are renewed.

Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. were already renewed in November.

  1. I absolutely loathe crossover episodes! I only watch Chicago Fire and it forced me to find out the other half in the P.D. I’m not doing it anymore.

    1. I agree, they don’t satisfy anybody unless you do happen to watch every show that is in the crossover. Last year when there was the SVU/Chicago Fire/Chicago PD crossover it was torture ‘having to’ watch them all (no one actually held a gun to my head, I’m just a sad sack who can’t miss a minute of a storyline ?). On the forum boards the SVU fans were pee’d off and likewise with the Chicago folk. The only crossover I’ve ever liked was Buffy/Angel but that made sense as it was mostly the same audience and a lot of the characters had been in both shows anyway.

  2. “Synergy” for crossovers works great if your a US viewer and all the shows air on one network at the same time. Whilst when you have five different shows airing on different networks some free, some pay on different schedules in Australia, then Australian viewers have very little hope of seeing the crossovers or any other appearances that often happened between these shows the way it was intended.

    1. Very true. I only watch Chicago Fire. Sometimes it feels as though the stories are incomplete because I assume they have been dealt with more thoroughly in one of the other “Chicago” shows.

    2. I completely agree. I don’t like that NCIS has a cross over because there’s no guarantee that Ten will air both of the episodes anywhere near each other & that’s just dealing with one Aussie channel & two shows. When you go into things like Chicago then it is a mess as you’re dealing with different channels & different points in the seasons. I’m glad I stopped watching Fire because of it. I really I really wish that channels here would get all spin-offs if they have one. It is probably too much to then ask for them to air crossovers together but putting them on one channel is a start. It is wonderful for shows like Arrow & Flash (currently) . It bugged me when SVU joined the mix as I had no idea what was going on even with their ‘previously on’ part at the start. But I’m glad it all works out in the US

  3. Great. But thanks to the ridiculous way Foxtel has acquired content, in Australia we can only see the current season of Chicago Fire, the last season of Chicago PD and no Chicago Med. So the 3 part cross over from earlier this month can’t be viewed and you would see Chicago Fire 1 week and the next and miss all the other stuff from the other 2 shows.

Thankfully Hulu aren’t trying to be as precious as Netflix and trying to block us from seeing shows we want to see (like these, Agent Carter etc etc), in HD, in the order they should be watched for an appropriate amount of $$.
