Brazilian-born pastry chef Gigi Falanga is joining upcoming Seven series Zumbo’s Just Desserts.
Falanga, pictured left, will appear as an assistant & time-keeper alongside host and judge Adriano Zumbo, who is joined by Rachel Khoo.
“I’ll be keeping a close eye on everything the contestants are doing,” she says. “I’ll be asking them lots of questions; is that the right consistency? Do the flavours work well together?”
The series from the makers of MKR will test 12 dessert makers, airing after the Olympics.
Originally from Brazil, Gigi is one of the most exciting emerging talents in the Australian dessert industry.
After moving here in 2004, she has ascended the ranks of Sydney’s best fine dining restaurants including the Shangri-La Hotel, The Bathers’ Pavilion, Manta and Jonah’s.
Her combination of elegance, finesse and creativity has been moulded by some of the country’s best pastry masterminds including Anna Polyviou, John Ralley and Alfonso Ales.
Australia’s most passionate dessert makers are ready to make some magic in Zumbo’s candy-coloured Dessert Factory.
They’ll bake. They’ll create. But only one will rise. Who will be Australia’s best?

From what I saw on twitter viewers didn’t care for Rachel Khoo on MKR so it’s surprising that 7 still want to invest in her. Zumbo may get some of the Masterchef crowd interested but once they realise it isn’t of the same quality they will switch off in droves.
so they’re banking on Zumbo’s name to make this more of a hit than “The Great Australian Bake Off”?
Hopefully they are baking on a consistent timeslot too. GABO has worked well since Lifestyle took it.
Didn’t they learn from the mess that was Australia’s Best BBQ’er or what ever it was….. And Zumbo has limited hosting skills….
Bake Off suggests there is more interest in desserts than BBQ, which was summer content.
