Game of Thrones: Just 7 & 6 episodes to come

HBO has now confirmed GoT's episode count for 2018.

Winter is coming and so is the final for everyone at King’s Landing.

HBO has now confirmed Season 8 of Game of Thrones will comprise just 6 episodes, one less than the 7 we are getting this year. That brings the total to 73 episodes.

When news of the final season was confirmed last year it didn’t include an episode count.

As previously noted there are four (possibly five) potential spin-offs in development, with HBO covering all their bases that one of them will proceed to series.

The show returns Monday July 17 on Showcase.

  1. I’m guessing that the creative rights of George R. R. Martin may have limited the episode numbers, his input could not be guaranteed for a 12 episode season 7 – 8 and some of the regular actors will need to be replaced at some point even if their characters may not require to die. Having these proposed spin-offs allows more creative license so contract writers can control the production more with Martin just being a consultant to the show as a producer.

  2. As much as I’ll miss it, I’m also really excited that there is an end in sight because I’m so eager to see how the whole story wraps up. It’s also disappointing when shows go beyond their use by date and sink in quality so it’s a relief this is likely to happen. Bring on 17 July!

    1. Agree Kristi, and let’s face it in each 10 episode season there are always a couple of duds anyway. Hopefully things will be a bit pacier with less episodes and working towards a conclusion is what the show needs right now.
