Foreign Correspondent dominates Lowy Institute Media Awards

Foreign Correspondent‘s Middle East correspondent Matt Brown was awarded the 2017 Lowy Institute Media Award on Saturday night.

The Walkley winner was recognised for his coverage of the military campaign against Islamic State in Iraq, and in particular the battle to recapture Mosul. He was awarded a cash prize of $20,000 along with a trophy.

The award from the independent think tank is given to a journalist or team who has deepened the knowledge or shaped the discussion of international policy issues in Australia.

Foreign Correspondent dominated the awards with other wins to Sophie McNeill and Eric Tlozek while Four Corners was recognised for a joint investigation with Fairfax.

Beirut-based Brown has spent most of the past decade reporting from the Middle East and served as the ABC’s Indonesia Correspondent and National Security Correspondent.
