King takes cable Crown

Preliminary audience estimates for TV1’s screening of The King came in at a bumper 176,900. By Pay TV standards this is an excellent result.

In comparison the top show on cable last week was the NRL Storm v Bulldogs at 170,000.

Figures for Love My Way’s last season premiere were 57,136 for the first screening, then 20,000 and 18,000 in first week re-screenings. Significantly, aired on the Showtime Channel which is only available as part of Foxtel’s top shelf packages.

By comparison TV1 is available on all packages.

The big audience on subscription TV certainly augurs well for the Nine Network’s screening of the biopic due later this year.

The peak for The King over two audiences was actually 511,000 making the show the second-highest non-sports show on Pay TV ever.

TV1 produced the telemovie as part of the local content quotas that are required of subscription TV.

  1. Didn’t bother after the comments made, did not want to watch stuff made up about him. Horrific figures for LMW. Its so sad. Oh well, I will keep Foxtel for the news and whatever the other half wants it for. I only had it for LMW, now I am recording Y&R for mum. Downloading is the way to go.

  2. I watched The King last night & I was lost for words – it was EXCELLENT. Having not lived in Australia during the time I found the tv movie to be a wonderful insight into Graham’s world & I thought Stephen Curry was AMAZING – what wonderful talent with have in this country.
