Sally Field rocks

Sally “I know that you LIKE me!” Field always makes memorable acceptance speeches. Here is the Emmy speech that FOX cut in the US in which Field drops the “G” word during an anti-Iraq war speech. The word was ‘goddamned’ but it was too hot for the network censors, who have been on alert since their own TV 9-11: Janet Jackson’s NippleGate.

  1. I adore Sally and she is perfect in BROTHERS AND SISTERS … I assume that is why she won the award???
The War is an integral part of the show’s storyline and clearly a negative and destructive thing as far as this show is concerned. (Which I clearly agree).
Thrilled that she won … and looking forward to Season 2 when Justin is back in Iraq against his will!
    Jack!

  2. In a statement issued on Monday, Fox Broadcasting said: “Some language during the live broadcast may have been considered inappropriate by some viewers. As a result, Fox’s broadcast standards executives determined it appropriate to drop sound during those portions of the show.”

    and

the network believed that the “fleeting expletives” ruling did not give Fox the right to forgo its responsibility to keep objectionable language off broadcast television.”

  3. I don’t think it was because of the word “GODDAMNED”, I think it had more to do with her following statement regarding the war that got FOX all bothered. The FCC actually said it was okay to air the word goddamned in primetime.

FOX NEWS CHANNEL is staunchly in favor of the war (to the point of being propaganda) and Sally’s comments conflict with that.

Taken together with last week’s censorship of Kathy Griffin telling people “jesus had nothing to do with my Emmy” it’s a poor reflection on just how little free speech we’re allowed in the world.

  4. Sorry, to the post asking for a history lesson, when in history did *mothers rule the world*??

There is a huge difference in refusing to publish a comment on grounds of offensive language or hateful attacking remarks and refusing to publish it because the views don’t match the owner’s.

I for one would have been annoyed if I was watching live programming and something was censored for this reason alone!

  5. At the least the moserator(David Knox) doesn’t censorship comments like Fox did to Sally’s comments in the US version…Canada didn’t censor!!

To the anonymous person above, so what’s your point?..you are obviously in favour of censorship with views that don’t agree with your views?
Grow up!!this isn’t the USSR or China..where just being gay is punishable with jail time..

  6. Sally Field does not rock. Sally Field is an idiot. “If mother’s ruled the world there would be no war”? Sally Field needs a history lesson. And the network can choose to broadcast what they want to broadcast. It’s THEIR airtime! This forum is moderated by the owner of the site. If he does not decide to publish this comment, is it censorship? No. It’s his site – he can do what he wants with it.

  7. It’s amazing when you see the “censored” tape of the speach..just goes to black for a couple of seconds…Sally got her point home without really trying ….. all the press have picked up on the censorship and repeated what she said..You can’t say “goddam ” on Fox. ..tut tut..
