Airdate: Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

Reports today that the return of Who Wants to be a Millionaire is set for Monday October 22.

The show is taking over from Temptation in the 7pm timeslot. Ed Phillips’ game show is hardly faring that poorly, and with numbers down for 1 vs 100 (due in part to poor lead-ins), it’s an unusual programming move.

Given the show is returning at such a late stage of the year, one would have to presume this is a programming experiment by the heads at Nine. There will be about one month of the ratings season left to play. If it doesn’t work it would logically peter out at year’s end. If it does work, it gives Nine some ideas for 2008. Temptation, which is said to return, could move to a timeslot prior to the 6pm News.

But what do you think? Are you ready for Eddie five nights a week?

  1. Actually, what’s been reported elsewhere is that Who Wants to Be a Millionaire will be running a weekly 90-minute programme at 7pm every Monday night until the end of the ratings season. Temptation will still be on, but now only four times a week, every Tuesday-Friday at 7pm. So, we get the best of both worlds!

  2. Eddie is hoping the same rating numbers will be transferred to his show..I don’t think so..also he wants to be on TV 5 nights a week for his ego, as I think he believes he is the best TV performer in Australia

  3. Cahnnel 9 should put their energies into fixing what is broken and leaving what’s working alone. I don’t have a problem with Eddie but he is definitely not the saviour that Channel 9 seem to think he is.

The format of Millionaire will have to change markedly for it to work in a 30min timeslot.

  4. What a pathetic move…..

If anything, it’s just plain greedy. Temptation is rating well, but they obviously think that Millionaire would rate better. Though in reality it won’t. People are sick of Eddie, sick of the twenty minutes it takes for one question to be answered on Millionaire and sick of good shows being dumped for tired formats.

I think this will alienate a lot of people and their ratings will drop dramatically. I hope so, it’s a typical channel 9 move and they deserve to suffer because of it.

    What do you think David?

  5. Bad Move.

Temptation should not be touched. It’s an iconic show, that is holding it’s own. Why not just return Millionare to it’s 830 Monday timeslot, instead of Moives like…..FAT GREEK WEDDING!

    Geez…. it’s like they’ve given up.

  6. Absolutely not!!

Temptation rates higher than 1 vs 100. People are sick of Eddie dominating the screen. ANd if it’s a half hour show…there will be at least 15 minutes of ummmmm…well…let’s see…time wasting so that we get two answers per show!
