GTV9 site hits property market.

GTV9 Richmond is now officially on the market after sales agent Colliers International added it to its portfolio.

It follows the Willoughby site being added last month.

The GTV site was established in 1908 as the Wertheim Piano Factory. Heinz took ownership of the site in 1935 until the Nine Network’s purchase in 1955. The site has been home to everything from In Melbourne Tonight to Hey Hey Its Saturday and beyond.

The 3ha. site has Heritage overlays registered with the Yarra council which prevents unapproved exterior alteration to the building’s frontage. It is looking at further Heritage building limitations and has outlined recommendations for low-rise buildings, affordable housing, an arts precinct and the opening of more streets should the site be sold.

Colliers describes the site simply, with no reference to its rich cultural history. “This iconic re-development opportunity is just 4km’s from the Melbourne CBD, only a short walk to the established Bridge Road retail shopping strip and Melbourne’s major sporting precinct. Neighbouring the site are sought after residential areas including Toorak, Hawthorn and South Yarra. This opportunity is not to be missed.”

Collier’s International managing director of investment sales John Marasco said, “The project is made especially interesting because we are also required to find premises for Nine to operate from.

“PBL Media represents a blue chip tenant looking for substantial space in both Sydney and Melbourne so we are confident we can find locations that will suit the needs of Nine,” he said.

Nine Melbourne is widely tipped to relocate to the Docklands.

A listing with Heritage Victoria has sat idle since 1986.
