Little joy as 9 hampers go

Many things Kerry Packer may have been, but when it came to Christmas he was no Scrooge. Every year Packer gave every one of his Nine employees a Christmas hamper, regardless of their status in his organisation.

That won’t happen this year. According to The Australian, PBL Media CEO Ian Law is expected to tell staff it was “a legacy of the Packer family.” The hampers, said to be worth $300 each were stocked with with “a large ham or a side of smoked salmon plus a turkey, two bottles of wine, Christmas pudding, cake and assorted nibbles, condiments and sweets.”

Nine has also lost the ratings year to Seven, which will be made official after Dec 1.
